If you are fed up of the gym and are looking to get some exercise in an alternative way then why not consider taking up an ‘old school’ sport. Dust off your memories of PE at high school and try to remember what you were good at. Here are just a few ideas which may just strike a chord…

- Netball. It is highly likely that your school had a team, as most girls in this country played netball for years as teenagers whether they liked it or not. There are loads of adult teams out there so grab your trainers and go and join in.

Women have lots of tasks and challenges, and fitness motivation is but one of them. It’s really besides the point whether you have a job or have lots to keep you busy at home. We know you are faced with extraordinary demands on your time, and it can be hard enough making time to stay in great shape. It can seem like an uphill battle to look back at a time when you were in great shape and try to return to that after the usual stresses of life have accumulated. Having sufficient motivation is the key to success when it comes to starting and sticking with a fitness or exercise program. Study and put into practice these fitness motivation practices for women, as they can be very effective.

Considering a different approach can help if you find it increasing difficult to maintain your forward momentum. Set up a reward system for yourself involving performance goals. Look at it as positive reinforcement. Giving yourself a healthy reward for completing your workout as planned is one example. This treat could be stopping by a healthy sports drink bar for something tasty. If you reach your workout goal, you could indulge in a nice hot bubble bath that evening. Stick to your rewards for performance goals and be creative with them.
