I have a little problem which I want to share with you: I am having another baby. Problem is actually not quite the right word, as we are completely delighted about the imminent arrival of our latest gorgeous bundle of joy. The problem comes with the fact that we have run out of bedrooms and as we are not in a position to move house we will have to squeeze the little treasure in somewhere…
Enter the major DIY bedroom project which needs to be completed on a fairly tight timescale. Although baby will be sharing our room to start with, we want our older children settled into their new arrangements as early as possible to avoid a

ny feelings of being pushed out by their tiny sibling. With that in mind, we also need to ‘sell’ the idea of them sharing a room and get them a bit excited about it. Luckily we have two girls and so a trip to a local bed sale has started the ball rolling as they are giddy about having new beds and of course, matching bedding.
http://www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk was a great place to shop for children’s beds and we have gone for divan models with handy storage drawers underneath as space is at a premium in the new joint bedroom. They also got ‘girlie’ pink fa
bric headboards which I am going to help them customise with appliquéd letters and motifs so that they feel they are making their room even more personal.
In comes Grandpa with the wall paper they chose between them and the room is a haven of pink cuteness for little girls. If we can only get them to go to bed and sleep rather than talking for hours we will be onto a winner – hopefully the novelty will wear off soon. Now then, on to the nursery….

If you are developing your home for an ever-growing family then one of the issues which may be of concern to you is bedroom space. With the housing market in a sluggish mood many families are adapting their living spaces rather than moving house and bedroom issues can often be the hardest to resolve. Children who once shared happily may not be able to co-habit a bedroom successfully any more, or it may simply have become inappropriate due to an age gap. There are a couple of things which are possible solutions – and may be DIY projects that would work for you.

Partition walling can be a great way to change your home. If you have a large bedroom which you need to split then a simple stud wall may just do it. If access doors are a problem then don’t run the partition the full way across the room, it will still afford much needed privacy without major renovation to gain secondary entry from the corridor. The beds can be placed away from the gap to make the most of the division and an extra surface area becomes available for placing furniture against. Thank goodness for the warmer weather! Finally the children are free to play happily outside without freezing their toes off and ending up with sniffley colds every other week. It is such a pleasure to be able to sit outside in the sunshine watching them as well – especially when you have other Mums for company and a nice pot of coffee.

When little friends come round for tea after school I am always happy to feed and entertain them, but life is so much easier when they are in the garden rather than the house. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they can turn single beds into space ships, duvets into tents and generally ransack their bedrooms in a matter of moments. Read more… » «Playtime all the Time»
