April has a crazy month. I sat down a week or two ago and worked out that there were only eight days when I could actually do any work without the children around – a horrifying thought! So I applied myself to enlisting some assistance in order to give myself a fighting chance of producing a months work in as short a time as possible. I think I will be OK, ask me when it gets to May (also featuring two bank holidays, a polling day and half term – aaaaargh!)

Anyway, despite the look of panic that has permanently settled on my face for the foreseeable future I am a bit of a romantic softy at heart and am really looking forward to some happy Easter fun and of course to the much anticipated Royal Wedding. To celebrate, we are having a street party which will see the kitchens up and down the neighbourhood frantically producing endless food and drinks for the masses, and the biggest television we own between us being set up for all to enjoy the show. I have been campaigning for a ‘wear your own wedding dress’ theme amongst the ladies but so far I am yet to raise much enthusiasm – most disappointing I must say, I might just wear mine anyway… Read more… »

Mothers Day is a wonderful time with a young family: they bring home handmade cards and gifts from nursery or school and they are enchanted by the whole concept. This year I got a very cute ‘kiss in a box’ with strict instructions not to untie the ribbon as it would float away and then I would be sad. Bless.

My husband, to his credit, embraced the day as well and I got the traditional breakfast in bed complete with flowers on the tray – most impressive. The state of the kitchen afterwards told the tale of how ‘helpful’ the children had been in preparing the food and I questioned the wisdom of including jam on the menu to go with my croissants.
