Often our lives lead us into familiar routines that have the potential of making us feel like we are in a rut and not living life to the fullest. Recognising that in our lives are just moving through different shades of grey is the first step toward trying to get the colour and zest back into our day. Life is full of vibrant colours that burst with passion and joy, contentment and connection and it is up to us as individuals to harness it. Here are a few tips on how to change from spectator to participant, and put colour back in your life.

Spruce Up Your Surroundings
Adding colour to our surroundings does wonders in boosting our moods and lifting our spirits, and there are many ways we can achieve this. Big projects such as redecorating your home will make your space more bright and cheerful, and will make you feel more bright and cheerful as well. Changing your walls from cold colours such as grey or slate to warm colours like yellow and light green will have you feeling better already.
If redecorating is not an option, then you can spruce up your space by simply displaying some flowers or buying a few plants. Have flowers delivered regularly to keep the look fresh and clean. If you really want something new, completely changing your wardrobe will make you feel like a whole new person.
Take a Moment
For some of us, we fly through life in such a hurry that we don’t take notice of our surroundings. Instead, our scenery blends into itself and becomes one big blur. The old saying “slow down and smell the roses” was never so poignant and useful as it is in our modern world. So if you have ever driven somewhere without being able to recall all the directions you took to get there, it is time to slow things down. Noticing the details and the beauty that is around us will help us see that our world is already full of colour – we just have to look at it.
Do Something Enjoyable
Playing is for children, not adults. If this is what you truly believe, then it is time to rethink what it means to “play”. Children are uninhibited and don’t feel guilty to just have fun; but as adults, our compounding responsibilities makes it hard for us to justify doing the things that really bring us joy, and so we stop doing them. Rediscover your inner child, and make time to do something that you are passionate about, otherwise you will find yourself feeling bitter and resentful, leading to a grey existence.
Spend More Time with Others
Nothing brings more colour and beauty into our world than the great diversity of the people who occupy it. Spending time with your friends is a great way to feel connected with the world, but spending time with people you don’t know and learning from them will illuminate a whole new way of thinking. Whether you join a club or take up a new hobby, the benefits of meeting a variety of interesting people from all backgrounds will make you feel alive and brilliant.
